Nebraska EDGE Princewill Umanmielen plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Nebraska EDGE Princewill Umanmielen plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Umanmielen just wrapped up his second season with the Huksers and was originally a nice recruiting win for head coach Matt Rhule. But now, Umanmielen will look to continue his college career elsewhere.
While there were no recorded starts, Nebraska is losing a nice contributor in Umanmielen. He played in all 12 regular season games and tried to get the opposing quarterbacks. Umanmielen recorded 13 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks throughout the season. The half-sack came early in the year against Colorado.
Go one year back to his true freshman season and the numbers are still impressive. The 22 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 1.0 sack with four quarterback hurries was good enough to be named a second-team All-American.
Maybe even more impressively, Nebraska named the second-year player to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. This meant Umanmielen recorded at least six service projects during the calendar year while being in good academic and athletic standing.

Umanmielen played high school football at Manor (TX) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 227 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
This process will be nothing new for the family. Princewill’s older brother, Princely, entered the portal last season after playing for the Florida Gators. He was one of the top names available and eventually landed with the Ole Miss Rebels. The move certainly paid off in a big way.
Teams will be hoping Princewill Umanmielen can make a similar type of impact moving forward.
A few other Nebraska defensive players have decided to enter their names into the transfer portal as well. On Monday, the news broke about defensive coordinator Tony White leaving the program in favor of Florida State. Umanmielen is just the latest to make the decision to leave Lincoln.
