Nebraska fires defensive coordinator Erik Chinander after lopsided loss to Oklahoma

Nebraska has parted ways with defensive coordinator Erik Chinander, HuskersOnline’s Sean Callahan reports. Special teams coordinator Bill Busch will take over as interim DC for the remainder of the 2022 season.
Interim head coach Mickey Joseph made the move following the Cornhuskers’ 49-14 loss to Oklahoma, where Nebraska’s defense allowed 580 yards and seven touchdowns to the Sooners.
The firing comes exactly one week following former head coach Scott Frost’s firing after last week’s loss to Georgia Southern. Nebraska is now 1-3 on the season entering conference play following the mid-season coaching turnover.
It’s safe to say the regime change is underway in Lincoln, the only question remains – who’s next?

On Saturday, Meyer basked in front of a red-clad crowd chanting “We Want Urban!” during Big Noon Kickoff, with CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reporting that Meyer has been “contacted” by Nebraska regarding the job afterwards. Per the report, Meyer is not expressly a candidate, but he was pinged as the search for a new coach takes shape.
“It was not made clear whether Meyer was asked about his interest in holding the job,” Dodd wrote.

Well, Thamel cleared the air on Sunday, refuting the report that the Cornhuskers even contacted Meyer, and adding that he’s not expected to pursue coaching opportunities at this time.
“Source: There’s been no contact between Nebraksa and Urban Meyer,” tweeted Thamel. “He’s expected to remain at FOX and not pursue coaching opportunities.”
