Nebraska fireworks shop trolls former Huskers coach Scott Frost ahead of July 4
Evidently, Nebraska fans know how to hold a grudge. Unfortunately for Scott Frost, this particular resentment is pointed at him.
A fan in Nebraska was recently seen selling Scott-Frost-themed fireworks for a sweet $16.31. A tempting deal and also a painful reminder of Frost’s failure at the helm of the program. Frost coached the Cornhuskers for five seasons. During that time, the program went 16-31.
Fireworks might not be the appropriate product to represent Frost’s tenure at Nebraska. His coaching career didn’t explode and burn in a terrifying moment. Instead, Frost’s fall from grace was a slow sizzle.
The program hired Frost in 2017 after firing Mike Riley. It seemed like a match made in heaven. Frost is a Nebraska legend. In 1997, he led the Huskers a 13-0 record and a national championship trophy, becoming the first quarterback in program history to rush for more than 1,000 yards and pass for more than 1,000 yards in the same season.
Frost was more than a proven player. The Nebraska alum made waves when he led the unsuspecting UCF Knights to a 13-0 record in just his second season as head coach. Nebraska expected similar success.

The Huskers got anything but a 13-0 record. The program never had a winning season in Frost’s five years. Frost and Nebraska’s relationship reached a point of no return when the Huskers fell 45-42 to Georgia Southern at home in just the third game of the 2022 season.
Frost’s comments after the embarrassing loss didn’t help his case.
“That one hurt. We win as a team and lose as a team, and we got beat today. We got beat on schemes, and I didn’t really have an answer. They got after us.”
That was all Nebraska needed to hear. The program fired Frost, paying his $15 million buyout. Despite finishing last season with a 4-8 record, Huskers fans are hopeful for the 2023 season with new head coach Matt Rhule.
Rhule is the real deal. The 48-year-old served as the Carolina Panthers’ head coach for two years with successful collegiate stints leading the programs at Baylor and Temple, as well. Nebraska fans will get to watch Rhule’s Nebraska for the first time as the team takes on Minnesota on Aug. 31. Hopefully for Huskers fans, the Rhule Era is pure fireworks.
