Nebraska freshman Roger Gradney posts message following practice injury: 'Till next year'
Nebraska freshman defensive back Roger Gradney posted a concerning update on his Instagram on Monday after suffering an injury over the weekend.
Gradney posted a photo of himself getting carted off the field with the caption: “Till next year promise I ain’t done.”
There is no official word yet from Nebraska on what kind of injury Roger Gradney suffered. However, the update he provided Monday obviously doesn’t sound good and makes it seem as though he will miss the entire 2024 season.
Gradney signed with Nebraska after being rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 404 overall player in the country in the class of 2024, per the On3 Industry rankings.
He attended Rice Consolidated High School in Texas before coming to Lincoln and starred on both sides of the ball.
As a senior in high school Roger Gradney recorded 46 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 6 sacks. On the offensive side of the ball, he saw playing time at running back and receiver.
Gradney committed to Nebraska in February of 2023, becoming the first commitment for the Cornhuskers in the 2024 recruiting class. He stayed loyal to his commitment all the way through before signing to play for Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers.

Now it appears as though he will have to wait until the 2025 season to actually make an impact for the Cornhuskers.
Matt Rhule lists other Nebraska injuries in addition to Roger Gradney
In addition to Roger Gradney, Nebraska had some other players who were already injured ahead of Saturday’s practice.
Matt Rhule detailed exactly which players are dealing with injuries ahead of the workout.
“Jaylen Lloyd will be out tonight. [He] kind of reaggravated some tightness; nothing long-term that we expect,” Rhule said. “We will probably hold Tommi Hill out of tonight because he dealt with something in the summer. So just kind of load management for him, just getting him back. You might see a fistfight out there because he wants to practice.”
“Princewill (Umanmielen) banged knees. Nothing long-term, but we’ll hold him tonight. (Henry) Lutovsky reinjured a calf that he’s had all summer. So he’ll probably be a little bit more long-term. He’ll probably be like two to three weeks. We expect to have him back for the first game, but he won’t be out there tonight… Marques Buford is out tonight. Marques banged knees yesterday in practice. So he and Princewill have bone bruises that should hold them for a day or two.”
