Nebraska’s Gabe Swansen has been hot for his Cornhuskers during the Big Ten Tournament and turned in perhaps his best game so far with a 4-for-5 performance in a 12-5 win over Ohio State in an elimination game.

And after his big outing, Swansen shared with the Big Ten Network how well he’s been seeing the baseball for the No. 2 seed Huskers.

“Little bit like a beach ball. Just seeing it well out of the hand and reacting well and putting good swings on it,” Swansen.

In battering No. 7 seed Ohio State for a 12-5 win, Nebraska returned the favor from the tournament opener, when the Buckeyes won by a gaudy scoreline. Swansen accounted for six RBI and bashed a home run and a double among his four hits.

Plus, the performance was a bit emblematic of the season Nebraska has had, coming back after a rough start.

“We’ve kind of dealt with it this entire season,” Swansen said. “We’ve gotten gut punches throughout the year and just being able to respond. I think it shows how resilient this team really is and how we can just bounce back from big losses like that and come out here and pretty much give it right back to them.”

And Swansen, who is a bit stoic, knows how much it can fire up his team not only when he comes through with a big hit and gives his dugout a bit of emotion, even just a fist pump.

“They’re just as fired up as I am. I mean, we all play for each other and we do it for each other and whatever happens, happens,” Swansen said.
