Nebraska injury updates: Matt Rhule provides status of two key Huskers vs. Indiana
With the showdown between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Indiana Hoosiers just around the corner, head coach Matt Rhule shared an injury update on key Huskers Tommi Hill and Triston Alvano.
First, Rhule shared that Hill, a key defensive back for Nebraska, is still up in the air. The hope is that once he’s at the game, he’ll be able to play. Otherwise, however, the secondary is healthy.
“Tommi, we’ll get him to the game, see if he can go.” Matt Rhule said. “I think that’s the biggest one. Everyone else is healthy, ready to play. I think Tommi looks good. He’s looked good, though, a couple of weeks and hasn’t been able to go. So, we’ll see if he’s able to go.”
Tommi Hill has been out for the last two games with a plantar fascia injury that he’s been dealing with in his foot injury. Earlier in the week, Matt Rhule shared that he has a chance of playing this week since it has ruptured.
“I’d expect Tommi to have a chance to play this week,” Rhule said. “He was all set to play last week and actually ruptured the plantar fascitis as he was running onto the field after the tunnel walk, which is a good thing because when you rupture it, it’s very painful but it alleviates the problem.”

Coming out of high school, Hill was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, when he came out of Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida. While at Nebraska, he’s earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors. He has also twice been on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Triston Alvano is a sophomore kicker for the Cornhuskers who, through the first 15 games of his career is 39 of 39 on extra points and 12 of 19 on field goals. However, he’s currently dealing with a groin injury. That injury, according to Matt Rhule, will once again keep him out of action for Nebraska.
“Tristan’s out for the game. Yeah, Tristan’s out,” Rhule said.
Since Alvano went out with his groin issue, the kicking game has been a major issue for Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are just one out of five on field goals attempted since he went down. That means in a close game special teams could become a major factor for Nebraska. It’s also very possible that this is a close game because both Nebraska and Indiana have been excellent this season.
