Nebraska injury updates: Matt Rhule reveals status of multiple Huskers
The Nebraska Cornhuskers were looking to get healthy during the bye week and, according to head coach Matt Rhule, the team is in good shape moving into the second half of the season.
Rhule shared during his weekly press conference that the Cornhuskers are mostly healthy. He also shared updates on kicker Tristan Alvano and defensive back Tommi Hill, both of whom received generally positive updates.
“Yeah, Alvano kicked yesterday,” Matt Rhule said. “Still day-to-day.”
Tristan Alvano came to Nebraska as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the fourth-ranked kicker in that recruiting cycle. He played in all 12 games as a freshman and has appeared in three so far this season. During the first 15 games of his career, Alvano is 39 of 39 on extra points and 12 of 19 on field goals. Since he went down, Nebraska has only made one out of five field goals attempted. Previously, Rhule shared he’s dealing with a groin issue.
For his part, Tommi Hill has been out for the last two games with a foot injury. He’s been dealing with a plantar fascia injury that has kept him on the sideline but now, according to Matt Rhule, it appears he’ll have a chance at playing.
“I’d expect Tommi to have a chance to play this week,” Rhule said. “He was all set to play last week and actually ruptured the plantar fascitis as he was running onto the field after the tunnel walk, which is a good thing because when you rupture it, it’s very painful but it alleviates the problem.”

Tommi Hill came to Nebraska as a transfer from Arizona State ahead of the 2022 season. He had previously been a four-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, when he came out of Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida. While at Nebraska, he’s earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors. He has also twice been on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
“So, Tommi practiced all last week, so I’d assume Tommi has a chance to play,” Rhule said. “Other than that, nothing special. I think we’re pretty healthy.”
The next game for Matt Rhule and Nebraska is going to be a major test. At 5-1, the Cornhuskers will be on the road to take on the unbeaten Indiana Hoosiers. So, the Cornhuskers will need all hands on deck for the game. However, with a win, Nebraska will become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016.
