Nebraska joins mix for 4-star quarterback Avery Johnson
On3 Consensus four-star quarterback Avery Johnson already had a long list of scholarship offers from some of the top national programs. On Friday, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound signal-caller from Maize, Kan., added another big one.
The newest school to officially enter the mix for Johnson is Nebraska. Johnson shared news of the new offer from Nebraska Friday afternoon on social media.
The new offer comes on the same weekend that Johnson is expected to take an unofficial visit to Oregon. The Ducks have yet to offer Johnson. Tennessee coaches also visited Johnson’s high school on Friday to get more information. They’re expected to watch Johnson play basketball on Friday night. Johnson is also expected to visit Arkansas on Jan. 29 for the Razorbacks’ junior day.
Johnson, who led Maize to the Kansas Class 5A state championship game, ranks as the No. 186 player overall. He is also the No. 11 quarterback in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
On3 ranks Johnson similarly as the No. 11 quarterback and the third-ranked junior recruit in the Sunflower State.
Avery Johnson has a long list of schools that have offered him, but Notre Dame and Kansas State are currently the two teams that are leading in his recruitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

What does Nebraska offer mean for Avery Johnson?
Nebraska hasn’t been heavy in its pursuit of Avery Johnson up to this point. But new offensive coordinator Mark Whipple has started to target some new names on the Huskers’ recruiting board, and Avery Johnson is the latest.
Before the newest offer, the Huskers had only targeted Louisiana three-star quarterback Reese Mooney, who committed to Vanderbilt, and Iowa three-star quarterback JJ Kohl. However, both of those offers came before head coach Scott Frost shook up his offensive staff.
