Nebraska linebacker Stefon Thompson enters the NCAA Transfer Portal
Nebraska is losing a talented linebacker to the transfer portal. Junior Stefon Thompson has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.
Thompson appeared in 11 games this season. He recorded 27 tackles, two pass breakups and recovered a fumble after transferring in from Syracuse.
A class of 2020 recruit, Stefon Thompson was rated as a three-star prospect that year, according to the On3 Industry rankings. He started seven games as a true freshman for the Orange, finishing with 35 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks.
In 2021, Thompson started all 12 games for Syracuse and finished second on the team with 79 tackles. He then missed most of the 2022 season, before finishing with 52 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in 2023. From there, he entered the transfer portal, ending up at Nebraska.
Thompson played well for Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White this past season. However, White is leaving to become the defensive coordinator at Florida State. It is unknown if that factored into Thompson’s decision.
