Nebraska offers 2024 5-star DL David Stone

Oklahoma City (Okla.) IMG Academy five-star defensive lineman David Stone received an offer from Nebraska on Friday. He announced the news over social media.

Stone is the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 1 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 player in Florida.

Last week, Stone announced his top 10 schools. They are Oklahoma, Texas A&M, USC, LSU, Oregon, Alabama, Michigan State, Miami, Tennessee and Florida.

“I feel like out of those 10 schools, those are probably the most realistic options for me to go to,” Stone told On3’s Chad Simmons. “I feel like I can take them seriously in this process and they take me pretty seriously as well.”

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Sooners have an commanding lead for his commitment at 96.7%.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college. 

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

“We talk pretty much every other day, at least once a week,” Stone said about communication with his finalists. “It’s just constant communication. We’re building relationships off the field and I feel like that’s pretty necessary for them to consider you as an option. I want to have relations with the coaches and staff and everyone on the team.”

Regarding the Cornhuskers, they have no players in their 2024 recruiting class. Meanwhile, Nebraska’s 2023 class contains 21 commits and ranks No. 33 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings, as well as No. 5 in the Big Ten.

Stone has an On3 NIL Valuation of $141K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
