Nebraska promotes Dana Holgorsen to offensive coordinator for rest of season
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule added former Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen to his staff as an offensive consultant earlier this month. Holgorsen has quickly received a promotion.
He is now set to call plays for Nebraska and serve as the offensive coordinator, according to Sean Callahan.
Dana Holgorsen is taking over as the offensive coordinator for Marcus Satterfield. The Cornhuskers have struggled on offense lately and haven’t scored more than 20 points in a game since September.
Nebraska has also dropped three straight games, including its most recent contest against UCLA on Nov. 2.
Dana Holgorsen has an impressive background as an offensive coach. Earlier this year, he was on staff at TCU as a scout and advisor.
He has spent the past three decades on collegiate sidelines, including being a head coach in the 13 seasons prior to this one with eight at West Virginia and five at Houston. The Cougars fired him last offseason with him posting a record of 31-28 (.525). That brought his overall mark as a head coach to 92-69 (.571).

Over the 2000s, Holgorsen worked as an assistant in the Big 12 at Oklahoma State, Houston, and Texas Tech. He did so with work as an offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, and receivers coach. He also worked at Wingate, Mississippi College, and Valdosta State in similar offensive roles during the 1990s.
It will be interesting to see if Dana Holgorsen can quickly improve the Nebraska offense after just recently being added on staff.
The Cornhuskers were playing well on offense early in the season but have struggled mightily since.
Over the first five games of the year, they were 4-1 and posting 30.8 points per game, with 405.4 yards of offense on average. Then, in October, they went 1-3 as they averaged 14.5 points per game, with 290 total yards per game.
Nebraska is still just one win shy of their first postseason berth in eight years. The Cornhuskers have games remaining against USC, Wisconsin and Iowa.
