Nebraska QB commit Richard Torres suffers injury, out for the year
Three-star quarterback and Nebraska commit Richard Torres will miss the remainder of his senior season due to a knee injury.
He announced the news Monday afternoon on his Twitter account, although he did not specify the nature of the injury. HuskerOnline reported that it was a knee injury.
Torres suffered the injury in San Antonio (Texas) Southside’s game last Friday against Floresville (Texas).
Richard Torres was having a productive season for San Antonio Southside before the injury. He was 62 of 108 for 912 passing yards with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Richard Torres’ journey to Nebraska
Richard Torres was virtually unknown as a prospect heading into the 2020 season before becoming a Power 5 prospect once his junior-year tape reached college coaches.
Nebraska offered Torres on March 3. The offer was Torres’ first from a Power Five school.
The Cornhuskers continued to be at the top of Torres’ list over the next few months. He visited Lincoln, Neb., on June 4 and committed to the school 10 days later.
Torres is one of eight 2022 recruits committed to Nebraska, which has struggled on the recruiting trail in recent years. The class currently includes one member of the On300 in Columbus (Neb.) High linebacker Ernest Hausmann.

Torres impresses with quick arm action
Richard Torres’ rise over the past year from unknown to Nebraska commit demonstrates the power of a good recruiting tape and backing it up with in-person performances.
On3 National Analyst Gerry Hamilton said Torres looked great on his junior-season tape. When Hamilton saw him during 7v7 events, Torres continued to stand out.
“As a prospect, Torres is a legit 6-5 and change with more than functional athletic ability,” Hamilton said. “He impressed On3 in person at 7v7 with quick feet, a quick arm action and the ability to make closing window throws. That skill set carried over from junior season video to in person. On senior tape, Torres showed the ability to make QB plays under duress. Displays the ability to quickly move the safety, set the feet and make a quick release strike. The arm power to make throws in the intermediate game from the opposite hash mark are evident.”
