Nebraska QB Daniel Kaelin plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Nebraska QB Daniel Kaelin plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He spent just one season with the program.
As a member of the Class of 2024, Kaelin was a three-star recruit out of Bellevue (Neb.) West, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 6 overall prospect in the state, the No. 50 quarterback in the class and the No. 749 overall prospect in the class.

Kaelin did not appear in a game this season as true freshman Dylan Raiola started for the Huskers. With Raiola seemingly under center for the next two seasons, Kaelin plans to explore his options moving forward.

Head coach Matt Rhule knew he had a young QB room with Raiola at the helm and Kaelin learning throughout the season. But now, he’ll have one less signal caller for the postseason as well as into 2025.

Going into next season, Rhule will likely rely heavily on offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, who was brought in late in 2024. But, he signed a two-year deal Monday.
“We are excited that Dana Holgorsen has agreed to be our offensive coordinator moving forward,” Rhule said in a prepared statement. “Dana is one of the elite offensive minds in football, and the progress we made in our final three games provides a glimpse of the potential of our offense under his direction. We look forward to Dana leading our offense into the bowl game and building for the 2025 season.”
Holgorsen did say last week that he looks forward to practices in advance of a bowl game.
“I’m happy being here right now. I love what I’m doing. I had more fun Saturday (during a 44-25 win against Wisconsin on November 23) than I’ve had in a long time. There’s an element of being a head coach for 13 years (at West Virginia, then Houston) — not being able to enjoy it like I did on Saturday,” he said.
