Nebraska QB transfer Jeff Sims officially announces commitment to Arizona State
A few weeks ago, there was some chatter that Nebraska transfer quarterback Jeff Sims would end up at Arizona State. Well on Saturday afternoon, the dual-threat quarterback made it official, committing to the ASU Sun Devils on his Twitter page.
May 1st was when the chatter began about Simsā potential destination likely being Arizona State.
āThe current expectation is that ex-Nebraska andĀ Georgia TechĀ QB Jeff Sims is going to end up at Arizona State, sources tellĀ @ChrisKarpmanĀ and me for @247Sports,ā ZenitzĀ saidĀ via X.
In five games with the Huskers last season, two of which were starts, Sims threw for 282 yards, one touchdown, and six interceptions while completing 59.6% of his throws. Sims was a little better on the ground with 189 yards and a touchdown on 42 carries.
Turnovers were an issue for the quarterback, though. The six interceptions were mentioned but also fumbled on four occasions. Nebraska wound up losing all four of them and Sims was part of 10 turnovers throughout the season.
Arizona State is now adding an experienced player, even if the stats from last season are not great. Six different players threw at least five passes for the Sun Devils in 2023, needing some more stability at the position moving forward.

ASU turnover at QB was the main reason they needed Sims
The portal gives with Sims but likely the only reason Simsā commitment was needed is because of what the portal took away from Arizona State this offseason. Multiple guys have left the program in the past few months, making adding a quarterback a near requirement.
