Nebraska landed a massive win on the recruiting trail on Saturday when Lincoln (Neb.) Lincoln East four-star athlete Malachi Coleman committed to the Cornhuskers. Coleman’s pledge elevated Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class to No. 31 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. The Cornhuskers’ group, also ranked No. 6 in the Big Ten, climbed four spots from No. 35.
“I believe in Mickey (Joseph), so it wasn’t very hard of a decision for me,” Coleman told On3’s Chad Simmons. “I know he’ll take care of me for the next couple of years and I’ll do the same for him.”
A 6-foot-5, 190 pound prospect, Coleman is the No. 70 overall prospect and No. 2 athlete in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Nebraska.

Coleman’s commitment continues Nebraska’s in-state recruiting success
Coleman is currently the highest-rated recruit in Nebraska’s 2023 class, which currently contains 14 prospects. Following his pledge, the Cornhuskers now have commitments from four of the top five players in Nebraska.
Those prospects are Coleman, Omaha (Neb.) Elkhorn South three-star EDGE Maverick Noonan, Lincoln (Neb.) Lincoln Southeast three-star offensive lineman Gunnar Gottula and Pierce (Neb.) three-star tight end Benjamin Brahmer. Nebraska also has pledges from Scottsbluff (Neb.) three-star offense tackle Brock Knutson and Omaha (Neb.) Creighton Preparatory School three-star interior offensive lineman Sam Sledge, the No. 8 and No. 9 players in the Cornhusker State.

Nebraska’s in-state recruiting success is likely to continue. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Cornhuskers a 99.2% chance to land Gretna (Neb.) three-star interior offensive lineman Mason Goldman, the No. 10 player in Nebraska.
Other members of the Cornhuskers’ class include Vivian (La.) North Caddo four-star wide receiver Omarion Miller, Argyle (Texas) four-star defensive lineman Riley Van Poppel, Springfield (Mass.) Springfield Central three-star quarterback William Watson III, Peculiar (Mo.) Raymore-Peculiar three-star wide receiver Jaidyn Doss and Cypress (Texas) Cy Woods three-star linebacker Dylan Rogers. Miller and Van Poppel are both ranked in the top-350 of the On3 Consensus.
Nebraska previously had a commitment from Staten Island (N.Y.) IMG Academy four-star EDGE Cameron Lenhardt, the No. 312 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus. However, he backed off his pledge to the Cornhuskers following the firing of defensive coordinator Erik Chinander.
