One Big Ten program is the new favorite in the recruitment of Kansas City (Mo.) Liberty North four-star EDGE Jayshawn Ross, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Following a new RPM pick placed on Thursday, Nebraska is now in the driver’s seat to earn the pledge of Ross. Sooner Scoop recruiting insider Josh McCuistion chose the Cornhuskers with just a 40% confidence rate, bumping their chances to land Ross up to 80%. Oklahoma is now second in the running at 8.5%.

Ross trimmed his list down to five schools on June 19: Nebraska, Oklahoma, Michigan, Penn State and Tennessee. The Sooners are the lone team to receive an official visit thus far, though Ross was in Norman and Lincoln for visits in June. Linebackers coach Rob Dvoracek is leading Nebraska’s recruitment of the coveted EDGE.

“As a player, whoever gets me is going to get the best of the best. I am going to go out and outwork anyone that is in front of me. I am going to give it my all for the coach I play for,” Ross told On3’s Chad Simmons last June.

Ross is the No. 361 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 29 EDGE and the No. 8 recruit in Missouri.

Nebraska pushing for top-20 recruiting class

The Cornhuskers’ class is currently No. 21 in the nation and and No. 5 in the Big Ten. New head coach Matt Rhule is hopeful to put Lincoln back on the map as one of the top destinations in college football. Ross would help build to that goal.

Of Nebraska’s 24 commits, six are four-stars, including top-100 Ainsworth (Neb.) tight end Carter Nelson, Waipahu (Hawaii) interior offensive lineman Preston Taumua and Altair (Texas) Rice Consolidated safety Roger Gradney. Ross would follow the trio as the next highest-ranked commit in the class, if he was to pledge. DeSoto (Texas) cornerback Mario Buford, Bellevue (Neb.) wide receiver Dae’vonn Hall and Bellevue (Neb.) quarterback Daniel Kaelin also own four-star status. Kaelin is the No. 27 QB in the cycle.

On Ross’ side of the ball, Nebraska has one linebacker commit — Miami Christopher Columbus three-star Willis McGahee IV — and two defensive line commits — Bay City (Texas) three-star Carlon Jones and Elkhorn (Neb.) South three-star Ashton Murphy. Ross would be the first EDGE to join the class.
