Nebraska volleyball player Harper Murray releases statement on off-court legal issues
Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball player Harper Murray was cited last Thursday for shoplifting earlier in the month. This was the latest in a series of legal issues for Murray, including a DUI that she was arrested for in April.
In the statement, that Murray released and has since appeared to delete from Instagram about those recent off-court legal issues, she says that she regrets some of the recent decisions that she’s made that have had an impact on those around her. On top of that, she thanked those who have shown her “grace, kindness, and compassion.”
“I deeply regret some of the recent decisions I’ve made, and the pain that I have caused my family, my team, volleyball fans, and everyone who has supported me,” Harper Murray wrote. “I take full responsibility for my actions. This past month has been a great opportunity for me to recenter and refocus on myself and get back to who I am.”
“Thank you to everyone who has shown me grace, kindness, and compassion. When the time is right I hope to share my story more and in the process hopefully help others. Again thank you to everyone who has supported and believed in me.”
The shoplifting incident occurred on May 33rd at Scheels near 27th and Pine Lake Road. There, security video reportedly shows Murray hiding five gold rings in her pockets before leaving the store. Police then say she was seen removing the rings from her pockets while in her car.
The value of the merchandise Murray was accused of stealing was about $70 before she bought $350 worth of merchandise. With that, Murray was suspended for the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ spring match against Denver.
In the end, Harper Murray was charged with suspicion of theft by shoplifting, which is a misdemeanor.
