Nebraska WR Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Nebraska wide receiver Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Garcia-Castaneda spent three seasons at Nebraska after spending two seasons at New Mexico State and one year at Saddleback College.
Garcia-Castaneda played in all 13 of Nebraska’s games this season, recording one catch for 10 yards. In his three seasons at Nebraska, Garcia-Castenada amassed seven catches for 137 yards and a touchdown.
In his two years at New Mexico State, Garcia-Castaneda played in 12 games. He caught 56 passes for 953 yards and 13 touchdowns in his lone season at Saddleback. The 6-foot-1 wideout caught a touchdown pass in 10 consecutive games en route to all-conference accolades.
Garcia-Castaneda played high school football at Twentynine Palms High School (CA), where he was an unranked prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
He is the 26th Nebraska player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. In turn, the Cornhuskers have added 16 players via the transfer portal this offseason, landing at No. 38 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.
Nebraska’s transfer class is highlighted by wide receivers Dane Key and Nyziah Hunter. The standout pair likely would’ve taken a chunk of Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda’s snaps, which may have factored into his decision.
Nebraska finished the 2024 campaign with a 7-6 record. It was head coach Matt Rhule’s second year at the helm of the program. Although the Cornhuskers’ season was far from perfect, they finished the season on a strong note, defeating Boston College 20-15 in the Pinstripe Bowl.

After the game, Rhule discussed how the win will propel Nebraska into the offseason.
“It was an experience we needed,” Rhule said. “And we played a lot of young players. Vincent Shavers was all over the field. Donovan Jones, he redshirted this year and he played corner for half the game. Got some young players some experience.
“I think just the mindset of, ‘Hey, we got it done in the postseason prepares us for the future. ‘We’ve played a lot of young players, so now they have perspective, and this was a really good three or four weeks for us.”
The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 7 and closed on Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
