Report: Nebraska volleyball star Harper Murray cited for DUI early Friday morning
Nebraska volleyball player Harper Murray was cited for DUI early Friday morning, according to the Lincoln Police Department, per the Omaha World-Herald.
“According to LPD spokesperson Erika Thomas, Murray’s blood-alcohol content was .169, which is double the legal limit,” the publication wrote. “Murray was also cited for reckless driving, obstruction of a peace officer, minor in possession and carrying a false ID. Murray was transported to a detox facility, and then she was cited and released.”
Murray was second on the team with 3.23 kills per set this season and had a .237 hitting percentage to go with 2.07 digs per set and a team-high 36 service aces. Further, the 6-foot-2 freshman finished the season with the highest kills per set average by a Husker freshman since Kadie Rolfzen (3.46) in 2013.
For her efforts, Murray was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in the 2023 campaign. She was also selected for the All-Big Ten First Team, AVCA All-Region Team and AVCA All-America Third Team.
A Nebraska spokesperson claimed the school is aware of the situation, but had no further comment at the time.
Nebraska went 19-1 this past season, with its sole loss coming in the national championship. In 13 seasons under head coach John Cook, the Cornhuskers boast two national titles and three regular season championships.
Cook is only the latest leader to guide Nebraska to success. The program was founded in 1975 and is one of the most decorated in women’s volleyball, with more wins than any other program and five national championships.

Harper Murray on the U.S. U21 Women’s National Team
In April, Murray was one of five Nebraska players named to the U.S. U21 Women’s National Team. She was joined by fellow Cornhuskers Laney Choboy, Andi Jackson, Olivia Mauch and Bergen Reilly. Nebraska assistant coach Jaylen Reyes is also an assistant coach for Team USA.
The team will train June 14-22 in Anaheim, California. During that time, 12 athletes out of the 20 will be selected to represent the United States at the 2024 U21 Women’s NORCECA Continental Championship on June 23-July 1 in Toronto, Canada.
All five Huskers have previous U.S. National Team experience. Murray won the gold medal with the U.S. Girls U19 Team at the 2022 Pan American Cup. It is unclear at this time if Murray’s citation will affect her spot on U.S. U21 Women’s National Team.
