The TV show Ted Lasso has become incredibly popular. It depicts a college football coach who becomes a Premier League soccer manager and the character is known for his positive attitude. Nebraska coach Scott Frost is one of those fans of the show. He’s even used it for a lesson with his team.
Scott Frost, during his weekly press conference, was asked how it felt to finally win a game after a long string of losses, dating back to the 2021 season. That includes several one-score games that the Cornhuskers lost.
“I hadn’t even ever thought of that and I know that’s the reality, but this is a different team,” Scott Frost said. “And we’ve got to make this team a team.”

“It doesn’t have a lot to do with losing close games down the stretch last year. It doesn’t really have much to do with that other than the scope of my career,” Scott Frost said.
“So, I love Ted Lasso. Everybody that’s around football loves Ted Lasso. So, we need to be goldfish and I think they did a good job of that this week and just coming ready to go.”

The reference to Ted Lasso that Scott Frost makes comes from an early episode. In that episode, Sam Obisanya makes a mistake in practice. In response, Ted Lasso tells him to be a goldfish because they have poor memories. In other words, forget your mistakes and move on.
“We have a lot we can get better at, and I think the team’s in a great place because I think they’re confident and they see the talent but they know we can be a lot better than we were today,” Scott Frost concluded.
Scott Frost on taking the next step
Scott Frost wants Nebraska to take the next step and start winning those close games. To do that, the staff and players need to figure out the details.
“Well, we got to take a step forward every time we play with that,” Scott Frost said. “And, I think it’s communication on the staff. It’s understanding of concepts and details amongst the players. And that’s going to be a work in progress, but we’re way further along with that than we were last week or two weeks ago.”
