Nebraska coach Scott Frost envisioned a different version of events than the one that transpired in this past Saturday’s game against North Dakota. Although Frost figured the Cornhuskers would come out strong and create some separation in a big win, they found themselves tied at seven at halftime.

Nebraska turned things around in the second half and went on to claim a 38-17 victory, but Frost was still concerned with the first-half performance postgame and opened up on the specifics.

“I hoped that we would do what we did in the second half in the first half,” Frost said. “I hoped we’d get some more guys in at the end of the game. I hoped we made fewer dumb plays and (didn’t) give up plays. But the other team practices too. Some of what happened is credit to them and some are things that we can fix.”

After totaling just 147 yards of offense in the first half, Nebraska nearly doubled that with 290 in the second. Running back Anthony Grant also had a monster second half as he finished with 189 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead 46-yard score to put the Cornhuskers back on top 24-17 in the third quarter.

Despite the turnaround in the second half though, Scott Frost knows the Nebraska offense has a lot of work to do to get where it wants to be. The Cornhuskers’ schedule is about to get a lot tougher in the next couple of weeks, with a matchup against No. 7 Oklahoma set for Sept. 17 before getting into the thick of the Big Ten schedule.

Those teams will be much less forgiving if Nebraska gets off to a tough start. That makes it all the more important for Scott Frost and the Cornhuskers to start quickly in this Saturday’s game against Georgia Southern, set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT in Lincoln.
