Scott Frost praises how far edge rusher Caleb Tannor has come at Nebraska
The Nebraska Cornhuskers unveiled the four team captains heading into Week Zero action versus Northwestern, including fifth-year senior Caleb Tannor. Head coach Scott Frost described the edge rusher’s transformation between his arrival in 2018 to earning captainship in 2022.
“Caleb was one of the guys when he first got here, and this is a compliment, he was on a lot of lists for missing things, being late, I’ve seen very few guys come as far as he’s come,” Frost said. “It speaks more to where he is now than where he started.
“Caleb’s become a perfect teammate and a good leader. That’s awesome to see. It’s one of the things that makes coaching very rewarding, seeing a young man turn into the man that Caleb is.”

Last season, the Lithonia, Georgia native posted 33 total tackles with two sacks and a forced fumble. It was the best season of his career so far, but the Huskers finished 3-9 and overall had one of the worst pass rushing units in the Big Ten.
Although Tannor was proud to earn the captainship this season, he told the media that it wasn’t his goal.
“I’m trying to win,” Tannor said. “I’m trying to get to a bowl game, plus. I was going to get everybody on the same page with a ‘C’ on my jersey or not.”

Coming out of high school, Tannor was a four-star prospect and the No. 315 recruit overall in the 2018 class, according to the On3 Consensus. This season could be a breakout year for him as he continues to put things together on and off the field.
Frost names edge rusher group strongest on the team
Frost said recently on Huskers Radio Network that coach Mike Dawson’s group is one of the strongest on the team with the addition of TCU pass rusher Ochaun Mathis.
“That went from a position of concern for me to maybe the strongest position on the team,” Frost said. “Ochaun coming in has really helped. He has been incredible just his approaching coming in and getting to work and I’ve seen improvement from him.
“But I think him coming in has probably raised the level of play from Garrett and Caleb. Blaise (Gunnerson) and Jimari (Butler) both had unbelievable camps. We’re deep there and those guys can all make plays.”
