WATCH: Travis Vokolek scores first Nebraska touchdown vs former team
The last time Travis Vokolek scored a touchdown, he was playing for Rutgers in 2018. Friday night, he scored his first one as a Nebraska player and did so against — you guessed it — the Scarlet Knights.
Vokolek hauled in a 7-yard touchdown pass from Casey Thompson to get the Cornhuskers on the board in the third quarter. Nebraska trailed 13-0 heading into halftime, but used a nine-play, 70-yard drive to get on the board right out of the gate.
For Vokolek, it marked his first touchdown since he caught two passes in 2018 for Rutgers. It’s only fitting Friday night’s game is in Piscataway.

Vokolek is emerging as a key part of the Nebraska offense under new coordinator Mark Whipple despite missing time with an injury he suffered in Week 0 against Northwestern. He entered Friday night’s game with seven receptions for 76 yards in three games during his first season since leaving Rutgers via the transfer portal.

Manning reached for his left foot and ended up walking off the field after the play. He only has three receptions for 24 yards this season, but he’s yet another injury for the Cornhuskers at the position.
Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda didn’t make the trip to Rutgers due to an injury, meaning Nebraska might have to get creative to fill some voids. Cornerback Tommi Hill worked with the wide receivers in pregame warmups and is wearing a new number, meaning he could get the call to help Casey Thompson and the offense.
Nebraska entered Friday night’s matchup 2-3, but is looking to build momentum off last week’s victory over Indiana.
