Nebraska gives initial statement on Ashley Scoggin lawsuit against school

On Monday morning, former Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball player Ashley Scoggin filed a lawsuit against the University, alleging an inappropriate relationship with a former assistant, Chuck Love. Multiple high-ranking officials are named in the lawsuit, including athletic director Trev Alberts,
Nebraska has since responded, releasing their initial statement on the lawsuit. They do “not agree” with the allegations Scoggin has presented and plan to “vigorously” defend itself over the matter.
“The University was made aware of the lawsuit this morning,” the statement from Nebraska said via KETV NewsWatch 7. “While the University does not comment on the specifics of pending litigation, it does not agree with the allegations contained in the Complaint and intends to vigorously defend this matter.”
Current Nebraska head coach Amy Williams is also named on the lawsuit and is in the midst of the 2023-2024 season with the Huskers.
Scoggin left the program and currently plays for the UNLV Rebels. She transferred to Nebraska in 2020 after beginning her college basketball career at Salt Lake Community College, originally from Dallas, Oregon.
As for Love, he was suspended for three months and eventually resigned back in May 2022. He served as Nebraska’s associate head coach and was in Lincoln for over six seasons. However, Love is not currently employed in the coaching world.

Ashley Scoggins alleges being groomed by Chuck Love
Scoggin cited an interest in becoming a coach after her playing days. That’s where she worked with Love one-on-one during an internship with the athletic department.
Amid spending a lot of time with the coach, Scoggin was “groomed” into a “secret sexual relationship.”
“LOVE also began messaging ASHLEY directly through SnapChat,” the lawsuit read. “This included contacting her late at night and asking her to meet him for drinks. Sometimes LOVE would tell her that he was out drinking with WILLIAMS’ husband and he would invite ASHLEY to join them. ASHLEY did not accept the first several invitations to meet LOVE for drinks.
“When ASHLEY eventually did accept one of LOVE’s SnapChat invitations, they met in the parking lot of a Costco, after midnight. LOVE told ASHLEY he had just left the bars. They sat in the car and talked. LOVE chided ASHLEY about not bringing alcohol and asking her, if I leave for a different school, will you come with me?”
Knowing the coach wanted a sexual relationship, Scoggin allegedly was afraid of reporting Love.
