RB Savion Red transferred to Nevada last summer for more opportunity in a backfield. Now, less than a year later, he’s looking for another school again.

Red plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. He announced those intentions with a graphic on social media on Tuesday.

“First, I would live to give God the glory and praise for allowing me another year at doing what I love,” Red wrote. “To the University of Nevada-Reno, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Wolf Pack! Thank you to Coach Choate & UNR for believing in me and my ability a a player. I would like to thank the fans, the community of Reno, & my teammates that I have formed a bond with that will last a lifetime.

“With that being said; After praying and discussing with my family…I will be entering the transfer portal,” wrote Red. “Thank you UNR-Wolf Pack. Psalms 23:4.”

Red spent this season with the Nevada Wolf Pack after the two prior with the Texas Longhorns. He has appeared in 33 games in that time while in Austin and Reno and rushed for 818 yards and nine touchdowns, plus 108 receiving yards on 22 catches, over that career.

Red was behind several lead backs while on The 40 Acres with just 30 carries for 131 yards and a score all coming during his sophomore. That means most of his production came this past season as a junior with 119 rushes for 687 yards and eight touchdowns as their lead back. He was second for their offense on the ground, though, behind QB Brendon Lewis, who also transferred with him committing to Memphis.

Red, a native of Grand Prairie, Texas, was a three-star recruit, in the Top-200 of wide receivers and players in the state, in the 2022 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. With that, he arrived as part of their No. 5 class in ’22 with a total of 28 signees, which was an important recruiting year for the Longhorns.

Red put up good numbers in his first real chance as a college back this season at Nevada. Just 10 months later, though, he’ll be back in the portal looking for another opportunity elsewhere.
