4-star WR Andre Greene, Jr. 'followed his heart' to UNC
Georgia was in the final three, but it came down to Clemson and North Carolina for Richmond (Va.) St. Christopher’s School four-star Andre Greene, Jr.
The no. 11-ranked wide receiver in the On3 Consensus took a late official visit to Clemson over the weekend and the Tigers made an impression, but Greene committed to North Carolina.
“Dre followed his heart,” said his father, Andre Greene. “It was really a difficult choice, and he did go back and forth, but he ultimately made his decision Tuesday.”
One of the best on the East Coast built strong relationships with coaches in Athens, Clemson, and Chapel Hill, but the ones he established at North Carolina set the Tar Heels apart.
“Each coaching staff was great. Over the last year or, each school recruited Dre hard and we built great relationships with each school.
“We sat down and got the perspective of everyone in the family. We went over the pros and cons of each school, and Dre went back and forth a few times, but the relationships we built [with North Carolina] were extremely important.
“Those were extremely important and played a big role in the final decision.”
Multiple UNC coaches got close to Greene, Jr.
“What stands out most about North Carolina is how they have recruited me hard from the start,” Greene, Jr. said in a previous interview with On3. “Coach (Mack) Brown, coach (Lonnie) Galloway, coach (Phil) Longo — they have all recruited me from the beginning.

“I know them well, they have made me feel important, and the relationships we have stood out.”
Greene has gotten familiar with Chapel Hill since he was able to hit the road on June 1. The new Tar Heel commit visited North Carolina three times leading up to his decision and the vibe fit what he was looking for.
“It is a real family atmosphere at North Carolina. The communication is great and I know the coaches, some players, and some commitments there.
“The relationships are probably the thing that makes me feel comfortable down there.”
Greene is the 16th commitment for the Tar Heels.
On3 Scouting Report
“Andre Greene Jr. is a well-rounded bouncy receiver with the ability to make some high-level grabs,” said On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power. “We see Greene come down with some impressive contested catches, using his athleticism and coordination to to high-point the football.
“He’s also made some spectacular one-handed interceptions as a defensive back this fall. Though he doesn’t have verified athletic testing numbers, Greene looks to move well on video.
“He’s a significant mismatch against the competition he faces in the the Richmond private school circuit. Greene is not the easiest evaluation due to the limited amount of source material available, but there’s no doubt he’s a talented receiver prospect.”
