Alabama OT transfer Miles McVay commits to North Carolina
Alabama offensive tackle transfer Miles McVay has committed to North Carolina, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. McVay just wrapped up his second season with the Crimson Tide but did take a redshirt. Three years of eligibility remain as he makes his way to Chapel Hill.
McVay will not have a unique opportunity in his college career, being the first and only person to say this — at least thus far. He will play for both Nick Saban and Bill Belichick during his playing days, two coaches many regard as the greatest of all time in college and the NFL.
Just four appearances took place for McVay during his true freshman season, making sure to preserve the redshirt. Head coach Kalen DeBoer got him a bit more involved this past year, though. McVay played in all 12 Alabama games, being considered the backup left tackle behind Kadyn Proctor.
McVay played high school football at East Saint Louis (IL), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 176 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

North Carolina lands ECU defensive lineman from transfer portal
East Carolina transfer DL C.J. Mims has signed with North Carolina, On3’s Pete Nakos confirms. He’s among the first transfer additions for new head coach Bill Belichick. Mims was originally committed to Wake Forest as a transfer but pulled back his decision with the retirement of head coach Dave Clawson.
Mims was an impactful presence during his three seasons with East Carolina. After redshirting his freshman season in 2022, Mims played in 24 games the last two seasons. He made 37 tackles and six tackles for loss and forced two fumbles from his defensive line spot.
Mims came to ECU as a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1683 overall player in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He played high school football at West Craven (N.C.) High School.
Mims has two years of eligibility remaining.
