Armando Bacot sets North Carolina double-figure rebound record
When Armando Bacot returned to North Carolina for another season, there were going to be multiple opportunities to set some program records. One came on Tuesday night with The Citadel in town and to no surprise, Bacot is doing it again on the glass.
Recording his 10th rebound in the second half, Bacot set the record for the most double-figure rebound games for the Tar Heels. Tuesday was game No. 62 of having at least 10 boards. He passes the legendary Billy Cunningham on the leaderboard.
Against The Citadel on Tuesday, Bacot finished with 11 rebounds after dealing with some injuries over the past few games. It marked the fourth consecutive game he was able to achieve double-digit rebounds.
However, 11 rebounds are far from the career high of Bacot. He has posted multiple 20 rebound games throughout his career, with 23 this season against James Madison being the most. However, the most impressive performances were most likely from this past NCAA Tournament.
Bacot recorded 21 rebounds in the Final Four against Duke and 22 a round before vs. Saint Peter’s. Both were double-double efforts, going for 11 points in the rivalry game and 20 against last year’s Cinderella story.

Bacot continues to set himself in the UNC record books and will continue to do so throughout the 2022-2023 season. He has been a rebounding machine since arriving on campus in 2019 and will be hoping his talents can lead the Tar Heels to a national championship.
Hubert Davis explains how UNC wants to use Armando Bacot
North Carolina had to go back to the drawing board this week. After losing four straight games, the Tar Heels needed these last few days to reevaluate their performance as something was just not working. They were able to end their losing streak with a 75-59 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday and, after the game, Hubert Davis pinpointed exactly why.
Davis praised UNC’s post players and says he’s requiring them to be more involved after beating the Yellow Jackets. He said it has to be the way they play because of their talent down low as well as how it opens up the rest of the team’s offense.
“We have to be inside out. Plain and simple, period, the end. We can’t be outside in,” said Davis. “We have Armando (Bacot), we have Pete (Nance), and we’ve got to use them. We’ve got to throw the ball down on the block and let them use their gifts and talents. Not only to score but to open up shots for our guards out on the perimeter. And also to get us into the penalty because we’re a really good free throw shooting team.”
