Armando Bacot talks Bracketology, UNC's mindset in the ACC Tournament
North Carolina’s season is more on the ropes than it has been all year long following their loss in the season-finale against Duke. They entered the game already on the outside looking and are now even more so after the defeat in the Smith Center on Saturday night.
Even so, Tar Heel center Armando Bacot isn’t too worried about the opinions of experts like Joe Lunardi. After the game, he pointed out that the media members there likely had a better idea of their position in that aspect than he did.
“I really haven’t looked too much into the Bracketology and how that’ll work out,” Bacot said. “I don’t know. Y’all probably know better than me.”
With the 62-57 loss to the Blue Devils, North Carolina’s record fell to 19-12 overall and 11-9 in the ACC for a seventh-place finish. That also dropped them to 49th in the NET rankings as their record in Quad 1 opportunities now sits at 1-9.
As of today, all that led Lunardi to drop UNC to the ‘Next Four Out’ section of his latest update to Bracketology. Before the loss, they were the second team out of the projected field as part of the ‘First Four Out’.

Now, with a lot of work between them and an NCAA Tournament berth, Bacot knows North Carolina can’t afford a short stay in the ACC Tournament. He says their goal is to win all four chances they could get inside Greensboro Coliseum because, if not, the Tar Heels are well aware of what that will mean for their season.
“I mean I’m trying to go win all four. That’s all we can do,” Bacot said.
Hubert Davis focused on ACC Tournament, shoots down NCAA Tournament question
Hubert Davis pressed his hand against his face for much of his postgame press conference after losing to Duke 62-57 for the second time this season. He was short with reporters and rightfully dejected following a make-or-break NCAA Tournament resume game for North Carolina.
Now, the narrative staring UNC in the face is that they now have to win the ACC Tournament, or it’s almost impossible for them to break the field of 68.
“I’m not a narrative guy. All I know was that on Wednesday at 7 p.m., we play the winner of Boston College and Louisville,” Davis said postgame. “Our full attention is on that game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.”
