Bill Belichick, elite QB signee Bryce Baker attend UNC basketball game
New North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick attended his first basketball game as UNC head coach on Saturday, and he had a special guest with him. Elite QB signee Bryce Baker was also in attendance as the Tar Heels took on La Salle.
Baker signed with North Carolina after speaking with Belichick on a Zoom call this week, On3’s Steve Wiltfong reported. It’s the first big recruiting win for the new UNC head coach, who was introduced this week and is preparing for his first foray into college football.
Baker is one of the top quarterback prospects from the 2025 cycle. A four-star prospect, he is the No. 93 overall player and No. 10-ranked quarterback in the class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Baker said his takeaway was the development path he’ll have playing under Belichick, a six-time Super Bowl champion head coach with the New England Patriots. With a goal of getting to the NFL in his sights, he has full trust in the new North Carolina headman.

“I asked all the hard questions I wanted,” Baker said. “Asked a lot of serious questions. Not just about me, but plan for the team, recruiting. I asked him about his plans to change the culture at North Carolina. He just explained how he was going to run it like an NFL place. He knows there’s differences in college and the NFL but he will have that next-level accountability he’s going to hold the team to. I think that’s going to help with the culture shift.”
Bryce Baker had an impressive senior season, completing 75 percent of his passes for 3,523 yards and 40 touchdowns, with just five interceptions. He also added 303 yards on the ground and six more scores.
Bill Belichick continues to settle in as North Carolina head coach as he takes over for Mack Brown. His first big hire was former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi to the same role at UNC, and he’s continuing to get a staff together.
