Bill Belichick: 'My Instagram account has been busy' amid transfer portal interest for UNC
There’s no shortage of interest in the North Carolina now that Bill Belichick will be roaming the sideline for the Tar Heels moving forward.
As the legendary NFL leader gets his feet wet at the college football level, he’s receiving his first taste of the volatility of the NCAA Transfer Portal. Evidently, Belichick’s best friend has been Instagram throughout the entire ordeal, as he navigates a brand new landscape.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday afternoon, Belichick explained why the social media app has been paramount to finding players for the Tar Heels to bring in. Perhaps the technology could be key to the 72-year-old coach acclimating to the college football world in a timely fashion.
“Definitely recruiting. A lot of guys going into the portal. Seems like every day, as teams season’s concluded with the bowl games, and then the Playoff here, that’s coming up. So, a lot of guys here in the portal. A lot of people contacting us, want to come to Carolina,” Belichick revealed, regarding the interest of potential portal targets in North Carolina. “My Instagram account has been busy. So, scrolling through that. I never thought I’d be saying that, but here I am, joining the 21st century. That’s been good.

“We’ve got big weekends coming up. Weekend of the 4th, weekend of the 11th. A lot of guys coming to visit and stuff like that. It’s been fun, it’s been good. Really enjoying it. School has been great. Chancellor, staff and administration have really been behind us. We’ve got a lot of positive things going. But a lot of players want to come to Carolina. That’s a good thing. If you see any good ones, send them our way.”
You’ve got to give Belichick credit for finally ripping off the bandaid and getting involved on social media. While his year away from football and his time in the NFL didn’t call for it, being a college coach is certainly a gig where you need some form of online presence.
Bill Belichick’s resume speaks for itself, but Instagram has evidently become a valuable tool for him to pinpoint which players North Carolina is targeting in the transfer portal. As the Tar Heels hope for immediate success in 2025, it’s a resource the legendary coach isn’t taking for granted.
The On3 Transfer Portal Instagram account and Twitter account are excellent resources to stay up to date with the latest moves.
