The University of North Carolina has released the complete contract for head football coach Bill Belichick, making public one of the most fascinating deals in the sport. The deal has now been formally signed, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Belichick’s deal is loaded with bonus incentives, the likes of which could make him a hefty sum should the Tar Heels enjoy some high-level success.

Bill Belichick Contract Bonuses

Competitive Performance: Belichick can earn a competitive bonus for winning set numbers of games in the regular season. They are as follows:

  • Win 8 Games: $150,000
  • Win 9 Games: $200,000
  • Win 10 Games: $250,000
  • Win 11 Games: $300,000
  • Win 12 Games: $350,000

Conference Championship Game: Bill Belichick will earn $200,000 for appearing in the ACC Championship Game without winning it, while he will earn $300,000 for winning the ACC.

Post-season Incentives: Belichick will have a number of lucrative postseason incentives, which are listed below.

  • Make Bowl Game: $150,000
  • Make Pop-Tarts, TaxSlayer Gator or Duke Mayo Bowl: $350,000
  • Make CFP: $750,000
  • Make CFP Quarterfinal: $1M
  • Make CFP Semifinal: $1.25M
  • Make CFP Championship: $1.5M
  • Win CFP Championship: $1.75M

Note: Only one bonus can be applied per season, for a maximum of $1.75 million.

Final CFP Polls: Belichick can also earn a bonus for his team’s final ranking in the CFP Polls. Those bonuses are listed below.

  • Top 25: $250,000
  • Top 20: $300,000
  • Top 15: $375,000
  • Top 10: $425,000
  • Top 5: $500,000

Postseason Awards: Bill Belichick can earn a bonus for being recognized as a coach of the year. There are two different awards that can earn him bonuses.

  • Conference Coach of the Year: $100,000
  • National Coach of the Year: $250,000

Team GPA: The team’s GPA will also have a direct impact on Bill Belichick’s ability to earn bonuses. There are a few tiers for this set of bonuses, as well.

  • GPA > 2.7: $50,000
  • GPA > 2.8: $75,000
  • GPA > 2.9: $100,000
  • GPA > 3.0: $150,000

Academic Progress Rate (APR): Bill Belichick can also make money based on the team’s overall APR, a metric the NCAA uses to help determine graduation success, among other things.

  • APR > 950: $100,000
  • APR > 970: $125,000
  • APR > 990: $150,000
  • APR > 1000: $200,000
