Bill Belichick reveals North Carolina has baseball, lacrosse players on football roster
Bill Belichick was never afraid to get creative when putting together his NFL rosters. It appears as though he is carrying that mindset over to college football, as well.
Belichick joined The Pat McAfee Show on Monday and was asked how his North Carolina roster is coming together after being hired as the head coach of the Tar Heels last week. He revealed that the North Carolina football program will have multiple lacrosse and baseball players on its roster for the 2025 season.
“We have two [lacrosse] players on the team, and a couple of baseball players. I had a little negotiation there, whether they’re going to be in spring ball or be in baseball or lacrosse. But we’ll work that out,” Bill Belichick said.
“Had a great opportunity to visit with all the other coaches here in the [athletics] program and honestly it’s a great group. It’s great to be a part of it, and we’ll all support each other and it’ll all work out.”
It’s no surprise that Bill Belichick will have lacrosse players on his roster. After all, as former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski revealed on the Up & Adams Show, Belichick is a big fan of lacrosse.

“Belichick loves lacrosse. He always talks about lacrosse when you’re in the building with him throughout the whole season. He brings it up a few times,” Gronkowski said. “He’s a lacrosse guy. Loves his lacrosse players. Loves the toughness of the game. Coach Belichick loves that about football and he also loves that about lacrosse.”
Bill Belichick also spoke with Pat McAfee about what it’s like being a head football coach on a college campus for the first time. It’s clear that he is enjoying being at North Carolina.
“Yea, absolutely. I’m excited to be part of the process and to start on all the newness of it – the spring ball, the schedule, recruiting. And just interaction with other sports, the lacrosse team here, with the basketball team,” Belichick said. “Went over and watched the basketball team work out yesterday. And they’ve had a lot of great players, obviously a great tradition with Carolina basketball.
“So just being part of the whole community process here in Chapel Hill has been amazing, been great. So I’ve loved it. I’ve really enjoyed it.”
