Following an injury this weekend, Bryson Nesbit will now be out indefinitely for North Carolina.

The Tar Heels announced the update on their tight end today as they start their first bye week. Nesbit will undergo surgery on his wrist in the coming time. That leaves an undetermined timetable on when or if he could potentially return this season.

Nesbit exited in the opening quarter of the 34-24 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Nesbit is the leading receiver this season as a senior for UNC. He has totaled 24 receptions for 264 yards and three touchdowns so far this fall. That was good for a team-high in catches, second in receiving yards, and tied for first in scores.

In his collegiate career in Chapel Hill, Nesbit has posted 107 catches for 1,510 yards and 13 touchdowns. That includes last season where he had career-best numbers overall with 41 receptions for 585 yards and five scores. That production earned him honors as a First-Team All-ACC Selection.

Nesbit also entered this season on the watchlist for the Mackey Award.

With this news on Nesbit, North Carolina will look to tight end options while being idle the next few days. The spot will be between two names in John Copenhaver and Jake Johnson. Copenhaver is fourth on the team in receptions and yardage and is in that tie with his now-injured counterpart for the lead in touchdowns with 18 catches for 193 yards and the three scores. Johnson, the younger brother of another injured member of the team in QB Max Johnson, then has one catch this season for seven yards.

UNC has spent almost a month now in trying to outscore their last four opponents. That’ll now be even harder with Nesbit, one of their top targets in the passing game, sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Brown shares North Carolina will name new nutrition center after Tylee Craft

The North Carolina Tar Heels have been going through a difficult period with Tylee Craft, student-coach and former wide receiver, passing away this weekend after a battle with lung cancer.

With the news of Craft’s passing, Mack Brown announced that they will be honoring him at UNC. That includes naming the school’s new nutrition center after Craft.

“There will be some things that we will do for Tylee’s family that we had already told him,” Mack Brown said. “The athletics department and the university is going to name the nutrition room outside of the locker room, that’s brand new within a year, the Tylee Craft Nutrition Center. So, that’s really cool and he had a big smile on his face when we told him we were going to do that. So, it was good that we were able to tell him at the same time.”
