North Carolina responded in a big way in this weekend’s 20-point win over Clemson. It was the kind of performance the Tar Heels needed after feeling as though they were at their lowest. In hindsight, though, junior guard Caleb Love thinks it worked out the best way it could have for UNC.

Love said that he really liked how he and his team answered the bell with their 91-71 victory over the Tigers. He said their recent three-game skid is actually something they may have needed in order to fix anything that was wrong both on and off the court.

“I feel like everything happens for a reason. We probably did need that,” Love said. “We probably had to hit rock bottom. Feel what we were feeling, address certain problems that needed to be addressed. I feel like it worked out for the best and we’ve just got to build off this win.”

All kinds of negativity swirled around North Carolina after their previous loss to Wake Forest. They had dropped three consecutive contests in the ACC and, based on their body language, there was plenty of speculation about them as they were fully placed under a microscope. That all then came to a head in the form of some players-only meetings in Chapel Hill.

However, whatever they talked about in those meetings must have worked based on how they dismantled Clemson late. Love led the way with 23 points as the Tar Heels outshot, outrebounded, and, overall, outplayed a quality league opponent.

Even so, Love could not be more right. UNC can’t take solace in only one win. If they want this feeling and momentum to be sustained, they’ll need to put on a similar performance tonight in another great opportunity on their home floor against No. 15 Miami.
