Colorado State transfer guard Kyan Evans has committed to North Carolina out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on his Instagram. He averaged 10.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game this past season.

Evans played two seasons for the Rams, but didn’t have the opportunity to show his abilities until he was a sophomore. He played in 36 games as a true freshman, but came off the bench in each of those appearances. Evans turned that around this past year, starting in all 36 of the games he appeared in for Colorado State.

Not only does he shoot 85 percent from the free throw line, but Evans improved his 3-point shot tremendously since his freshman year. After shooting 32.1 percent from deep as a true freshman, he turned that into a 44.6 percent clip as a sophomore, averaging just under two made 3-point baskets per game.

In Colorado State’s two NCAA Tournament games, Evans shot 61.5 percent from deep — making 8 of his 13 attempts from the field during that stretch. This included six during the first-round upset over Memphis last month.

Evans went on to make three or more 3-pointers in 13 different games this past seasons. In addition, there were only three games this past season where he was unable to connect from 3-point range.

He’s now set to join a North Carolina team that finished the 2024-25 campaign in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels finished 23-14 overall, including a 13-7 record against ACC competition.

Evans is the third player to commit to head coach Hubert Davis this transfer portal cycle. He joins 7-footer Henri Veesaar, and former West Virginia guard Jonathan Powell. As of this report, North Carolina has also lost three players to the portal in former five-star freshmen Elliot Cadeau and Ian Jackson, as well as PF Jalen Washington.

As of Wednesday, March 26, over 1,250 Men’s College Basketball players have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. That number is expected to grow as the 2024-25 college basketball season nears its end.
