Transfer DL Melkart Abou-Jaoude commits to North Carolina
Delaware transfer DL Melkart Abou Jaoude has committed to North Carolina out of the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Abou-Jaoude announced that himself with a post on social media on Tuesday.
Abou-Jaoude just finished his third season at Delaware in the FCS. In that time, he appeared in 25 games in total, including 24 over the past two seasons, on the defensive line for the Blue Hens.
While in Newark, Abou-Jaoude posted 48 tackles and 8.5 sacks. That includes a career-best season this past fall as a junior with 25 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
That’s after Abou-Jaoude, a native of Newton, New Jersey, was a member of the 2022 recruiting cycle.
Now, Abou-Jaoude is the second commitment out of the transfer portal for UNC under Bill Belichick. This comes a day following the commitment of Christo Kelly (Holy Cross).
There’s more roster construction to be done in Chapel Hill, though, even if its done through other rosters across athletic programs for the Tar Heels.

Belichick reveals North Carolina has baseball, lacrosse players on the roster
Bill Belichick was never afraid to get creative when putting together his rosters in the NFL. It appears as though he is carrying that mindset over to college football now as well.
Belichick joined ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Monday and was asked how his roster is coming together after being hired last week as the head coach at North Carolina. In that, he revealed that the Tar Heels will have multiple lacrosse and baseball players on its roster for 2025.
“We have two (lacrosse) players on the team and a couple of baseball players. I had a little negotiation there, whether they’re going to be in spring ball or be in baseball or lacrosse. But we’ll work that out,” Belichick said.
“Had a great opportunity to visit with all the other coaches here in the (athletics) program and honestly it’s a great group. It’s great to be a part of it and we’ll all support each other and it’ll all work out.”
