4-star safety Michael Daugherty sets official visit to North Carolina
Just a few days after taking an official visit to LSU, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson safety Michael Daugherty has locked one in to North Carolina.
Daugherty is the No. 239 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 20 safety and the No. 25 junior prospect in the Peach State.
LSU made a major move for Michael Daugherty
The Tigers’ new coaching staff made a big impression on him during his junior day visit, and it pushed LSU into the top group in his recruitment. His return trip over the weekend did nothing to hurt their standing.
“It felt like home,” Daugherty told The Bengal Tiger. “The atmosphere and way I got to see everything I needed to if I were to commit to LSU stood out. (What stood out was) the love showed by not only the coaching staff, but when we went out and people in the public would ask me who I was and why I was here. People seemed really invested into LSU.”

Daugherty previously said North Carolina, Miami, Louisville, Auburn and others are among his other top schools. This will be just his second official visit. But he wants to commit on April 13, which marks two years since his grandfather passed away from cancer. He is planning to graduate early and begin his college career.
“I think the biggest thing for me is just being able to go see those colleges and really pick their brains outside of football,” Daugherty previously said of what he’s looking for. “I feel like anywhere I go is going to be, God willing, I will be able to succeed and that person I know I am and have fun on the field, eventually the game ends. Definitely want to be able to have that academic background that will support my future.
North Carolina holds a slight lead over LSU to land his commitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). It gives the Tar Heels a 28.6 percent chance of securing his pledge.
