North Carolina was a rare Power Five underdog on Saturday when facing off against a Group of Five opponent. Appalachian State gave the Tar Heels everything they could handle, failing on a two-point conversion that would have tied the game. While it might have been a stressful win for head coach Mack Brown, a win is still a win.

Afterward, there was a promise Brown had to fulfill. He showed off his best dance moves in the locker room, something Brown said he promised to his team a week prior. Brown told the story when being interviewed by ESPN, joking with the crew about his “drip.”

“Well, you all got to get hip and get some drip,” Brown joked. “You got to figure this thing out. I promised the guys. After Florida A&M, they asked ‘would you dance?’ I said ‘no, you’re an underdog in Boone. You win in Boone and I’ll dance. Well, it was a crazy game.

“We’re all exhausted and one of them says ‘hey, you promised.’ I didn’t know it was the Antonio Brown dance either. Some people couldn’t recognize it. It’s an old dog, new tricks problem but the kids wanted me to dance so I did.”

Brown was right to say his team was exhausted. North Carolina and Appalachian State put on a heck of a fourth quarter with over 60 total points being scored. The Mountaineers themselves put 40 on the board and nearly sent the game to overtime.

Being able to hold off and get the upset win, Brown went through with what he promised his players after the Florida A&M win. While in a vacuum, the win might have seemed like one over a Group of Five opponent. But the head coach’s postgame celebration proved how much it meant to his team.

Mack Brown shows off dance moves after Saturday’s win

The North Carolina Tar Heels barely survived on Saturday afternoon against the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a classic, 63-61. It looks like a basketball score, but do not let your eyes deceive you. Both offenses lit up the scoreboard in historic fashion on Saturday afternoon in Boone, North Carolina. UNC head coach Mack Brown was relieved his team could come away with the heart-stopping victory and he decided to dance in the locker room following the win.
