Hubert Davis addresses the future of ACC scheduling
North Carolina, with a 9-0 record in the league so far, currently sits with a two-game lead in the standings in the ACC. However, looking ahead to next season already, the road in conference play will look much different following the additions of Stanford, Cal, and SMU.
Those new members from realignment will likely shift what is already a heavy schedule in their conference that features 20 league games. Still, for now, that’s just too far into the future for Hubert Davis to truly concern himself with.
“Well, one, I haven’t thought about that,” Davis said in a press conference on Monday in regards to a question about the potential look of a conference schedule for ’24-’25. “I’m just thinking about this year.”
The Tar Heels presently sit as the No. 3 team in the nation at 17-3. That includes an undefeated record in the ACC so far. Those nine wins have come by an average of nearly 15 points per victory with seven coming by double digits. In other words, UNC is doing too many things well within this current conference schedule to be too concerned with the next one already.
Davis also hasn’t thought too much of it because, in the end, his opinion will have no impact on it. Sharing his take on the matter does not mean that the Atlantic Coast Conference will use it in any consideration. That’s why, as the league moves into a new era, Davis is just grateful to be a part of it.

“I also try to stay away from things that are out my control. I’m not in control of the schedule, I’m not in control of how many league games,” Davis said. “I’m very proud to be a part of the ACC. I think it’s the best conference in college basketball. I don’t think it’s anywhere close.”
The next school year will bring all kinds of changes when it comes to opponents and scheduling for every sport. With that said, that still remains too far into the future to matter too much at all in the now. That’s why Davis remains focused on the present and is expressing nothing but appreciation when it comes to what the future will hold for their program.
“Whether we stick to what we’re doing now or change? Being a part of the ACC is an honor and a privilege for me and for all us,” said Davis. “It’s something that we’re thankful for and love to be a part of.”
