Hubert Davis credits team for fighting through adversity
North Carolina hasn’t had the season they’d anticipated so far. They came into Wednesday night’s game at 9-5 and were coming off their latest loss at Pittsburgh. However, after their 88-79 win over Wake Forest, Hubert Davis was proud again of how his Tar Heels keep responding.
Davis spoke about how UNC bounced back once again following the win over the Demon Deacons. He said he shared his pride in his team for digging within themselves and becoming better in every way they’re focused on improving, regardless of how hard it is.
“As soon as I walked into the locker room after the game, I just told them how proud I was of them,” said Davis. “One thing that we’ve talked about is that, for us to be successful, we’ve just got to dig deeper. Find the joy in how hard it is to be the best that you can be. Individually and as a team.”
“It’s just going to be difficult at times. You’re gonna be met with adversity,” Davis said. “In those times, you have to be connected to the discipline and the details of things we talk about and drill in practice every day. And with your energy, effort, and enthusiasm, you have to dig deeper. Our guys did that.”

After their unconvincing 5-4 start, North Carolina followed that up with a four-game winning streak. That was before they let go of the rope against the Panthers last Friday. The Tar Heels made up for it, though, as they shot 51.7% and pulled away late in Chapel Hill against the Demon Deacons.
In the end, Davis knew how crucial this was for UNC now that they’re in the midst of ACC play. That’s why, even with Wake Forest taking their largest lead of the night in the second half, he was so appreciative of how his players battled to close it out.
“This was a really important game for us and I just was really proud of them,” Davis said.
