Hubert Davis frustrated with officiating in road loss vs. Duke
North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis was not happy with the officiating of Saturday’s loss to Duke.
When asked after the 63-57 defeat to the rival Blue Devils in Durham, N.C., Davis said the fact that stuck out to him about the game was that his team was No. 1 in free throw attempts in the ACC and barely got to the line at all.
“We shot three,” Davis said. “Zero in the second half. That’s what I’m looking at.”
Throughout the first three minutes of his press conference, Davis refused to directly blame the officials. Instead he danced around implication by stating and re-stating his shock at the lack of free throws considering how many more they shoot per game than anyone else in the conference.
“You answer it,” Davis said when asked why the Tar Heels didn’t shoot many free throws. “We attacked the basket.”
North Carolina is the best team in the ACC at getting to the free throw line. The Tar Heels entered the game Saturday averaging 25.7 attempts per game, which was tied with Alabama for fifth in the country. They also had attempted 93 more shots from the foul line than any other team in the conference.

But they got no luck inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. North Carolina had three free throw attempts all game — all of which came in the second half.
Armando Bacot made his two free throws and Caleb Love missed his one attempt from the charity stripe.
“With us being by far the best in the conference at getting to the free throw line, our best guy that gets to the free throw line is Armando. He got to the free throw line twice,” Davis said.
