Hubert Davis 'just disappointed' in effort vs. Boston College
The North Carolina Tar Heels needed a last-minute comeback and overtime to beat the Boston College Eagles on Saturday. It was a game that head coach Hubert Davis walked away from with some frustrations in the defensive effort that his team put forward.
Following the game, Davis took the time to praise how North Carolina played in the closing moments of regulation and the overtime period. However, he also shared that prior to that he was disappointed in the team’s effort.
“I do believe in the latter part of the game,” Hubert Davis said. “Specifically when we were down by four with I don’t know how many seconds [18.6] to go and in the overtime I felt like we were locked in defensively. We got the stops that we needed, the deflections, the steals that we needed to be able to get us back in the game and eventually be able to win it. I felt like the execution offensively down the stretch was on point in terms of our spacing, our screening. We made shots. They stepped up and I was really proud of them for being able to do that in a pressure situation. But all the minutes leading up to that, I was just disappointed.”
In the end, North Carolina was able to defend its home court and win 102-96. In the overtime period, the Tar Heels outscored the Eagles 13-7. That came after Seth Trimble scored in the final seconds to get the score to 89-89. For the game, Boston College shot 54.5 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from three-point range. That came in a game where the North Carolina defense forced only four steals.

The 96 points that Boston College scored represented the fifth time that North Carolina has given up 90 or more points this season. However, it is the first time giving up 90 or more points since the loss to Florida on December 17th. That comes in a season where the Tar Heels are allowing 76.4 points per game, which is 297th in the country in scoring defense.
The win against Boston College snapped a two-game losing streak for Hubert Davis and North Carolina. Both of those previous losses came in one-point games against ACC opponents. With that, the Tar Heels have moved to 6-3 in ACC play, which makes them tied for fifth in the current conference standings.
North Carolina will be back in action on Tuesday with a road game against the Pitt Panthers.
