Hubert Davis discusses how to bottle up feeling vs. Clemson after difficult stretch
North Carolina earned a solid 91-71 win over Clemson to end a three-game losing streak and Hubert Davis discussed the game’s importance.
The Tar Heels head coach was asked postgame how the team could bottle up that winning feeling after improving to 16-9 on the year. But like all coaches, Davis wanted to take it one game at a time.
That’s with a solid Miami team on deck for UNC’s next contest.
“First, I think the important thing is to enjoy today,” Davis said postgame. “I was emotional during the game and after the game because they were playing with a sense of joyfulness. And you could just see it in the way that they were playing. It wasn’t just when personally they made their play, it was when their teammates made a play. They were just as, or even more, excited and happy and joyful for their teammates.
“And I just think it’s always a wonderful and beautiful trait to be able to celebrate other people’s success. It really translated into how we shared the basketball. I think we had 17 assists. I thought it translated to us defensively. I felt like we were really good defensively. It’d be nice if we could bottle it up, but I’m just very thankful. I told them to enjoy today. It was fun to have a front-row seat to see them do that. Tomorrow we’ll start our preparation on getting ready for a really, really good Miami team.”

Hubert Davis on turning attention to Miami
Davis acknowledge the big win over Clemson, but also looked ahead to North Carolina’s ranked contest against Miami.
“That’s a great question,” Davis said. “It is what it is, at 7 p.m. we play Miami on Monday. You can say okay we have experience to be able to handle that, but they’re older. Or you can say we have freshmen, we’ve got younger legs, and we won’t be tired and still play on Monday. At the end of the day, we’ve got an opportunity to play an unbelievable team on Monday. We played a really great team here today in Clemson. We’ll prepare tomorrow and put ourselves in position to see if we can play well on Monday.”
