The North Carolina Tar Heels have hit a rough patch early on in this season. After starting the season 5-0, the Tar Heels have lost four straight games, including their ACC home opener on Sunday against Virginia Tech. The four-game losing streak has some in the media remove the sound alarm for this season. However, North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis is not panicking despite recent troubles for the Tar Heels.

“I wouldn’t say there’s a common thread that connects us to who this team is. I think we’ve had a hard week,” said Davis. “I think each of the four losses, I get something different from every one of them. I don’t think I can say for each four this is what happened, and this is who we are.

“Well, maybe one comment thing is we’re falling short. I am, you know, disappointed, but I’m not discouraged. Disappointed with the outcome, but I was really happy with the fight in the last 15 minutes of the second half, to put us down by three and just came up short. I told them also that I’m not panicked, I’m not any of that. And, I’m convinced that we’re going to be a great basketball team by the end of the season.”

In each one of their four losses, North Carolina has fought like hell but came up short in the end. Also, three of the four losses have come against teams ranked in the college basketball AP top 25. It might be a bit concerning, given their ranking to start the season. However, this is similar to last season’s start. Then, plenty of individuals wrote off Davis’ squad after a sluggish start. Still, North Carolina was able to put together when it mattered, riding a wave of momentum all the way to the NCAA tournament championship game.

North Carolina will have a chance to end their early season struggles on Saturday when they take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at home. Georgia Tech is 6-3 on the season but with no quality wins on their resume. ESPN’s matchup predictor gives the Tar Heels an 85.2 percent chance of victory in the contest.
