Hubert Davis praises Tar Heels for their resiliency following win vs. NC State
This season hasn’t been easy for UNC, but the Tar Heels now sit at 21-8 overall and 13-5 against ACC opponents after Saturday’s victory over NC State in Raleigh. The win marks three consecutive victories for the Tar Heels. After the win, UNC head coach Hubert Davis praised his team’s resiliency throughout this entire season, adding that he is happy with how they have played, especially on the road.
“Well, we have played well on the road and that does give us some comfort and some satisfaction,” Davis said after UNC’s win over NC State. “Honestly, I’m just very proud of the guys at how resilient that they have been throughout the entire year. There’s been times where we’ve been bruised and we’ve been knocked down, and we always find a way to get back up.
“So lately after the disappointing loss to Pittsburgh and our response to play the way that we did on Saturday, Monday against Virginia Tech and Louisville, and then come on the road here against a really talented, extremely well coached NC State team in a rivalry game, their senior night on their home floor. I was very proud of the guys.”
In addition to currently riding a three-game losing streak, UNC has won five of its last six games and nine of its last 11. The Tar Heels have won four consecutive road games, which could prove to be valuable as postseason play nears.

A look at the final week of the regular season for Davis, UNC
On Monday, UNC returns home to host Syracuse in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels will then head to Cameron Indoor on Saturday to take on Duke in Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final home game in his coaching career. Entering Sunday, UNC sits in third place in the ACC at 13-5 against ACC opponents. Duke is in first with a 15-3 ACC record, with Notre Dame in second at 14-4. Miami (12-6) and Wake Forest (12-7) are right behind UNC, as well.
Duke takes on Pittsburgh on Tuesday, and Notre Dame travels to Florida State on Wednesday. The Tar Heels will need some help, but they could still climb in ACC standings with a strong finish to the regular season.
If the current ACC standings hold firm, Davis and UNC would hold the third seed in the ACC Tournament. UNC would have a bye until the quarterfinals, which take place on Thursday, March 10. The Tar Heels have played well at the right time, with a bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line. Now, UNC is looking to finish the regular season out on a high note.
