North Carolina big man Armando Bacot has been dealing with a number of injuries recently. The good news for the Tar Heel faithful is that their head coach, Hubert Davis, provided a positive update on their star center on Friday. Bacot practiced for the first time on Thursday in a limited fashion and was expected to see more reps on Friday, according to Davis. “He is trending up,” the Tar Heels head man said.

Davis also said there was a chance Bacot would play against Georgia Tech on Saturday.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have quickly been sliding, losing four games in a row including their ACC opener to Virginia Tech. It didn’t help that the Tar Heels didn’t have Armando Bacot to help against the Hokies. Head coach Hubert Davis explained his absence after the game.

“Well, it is his call,” Hubert Davis said. “I can’t make somebody play. So, it is his call. We didn’t know until game time. I was going under the assumption that he would play, and when he came back and said he didn’t feel like he could, then we moved forward.”

However, Hubert Davis doesn’t want Bacot’s absence to be an excuse for the loss. It was a game that the Tar Heels should have won either way.

“It is what it is. North Carolina always shows up. It doesn’t matter who’s playing or not. We have, we had enough in the bag to be able to win this basketball game and we just didn’t do it.”

Armando Bacot had previously spoken about the injury he suffered against Indiana, in addition to the ankle injury he’s been managing all season long.

“Yeah, it was my shoulder and then my collarbone too. But, I mean, y’all know me. I’m not gonna quit on this team,” Armando Bacot said.

“We don’t know exactly. I probably imagine when I get back I’ll get some x-rays or something like that.”

Armando Bacot on UNC ending its losing streak

This losing streak is frustrating for North Carolina. However, it’s one that Armando Bacot can help end. The Tar Heels need to figure out the little details to do so.

“I mean, we’ve been here before. It’s obviously tough and we’re all definitely upset about it. And we’re playing hard but we’re not — it’s the small details that just aren’t clicking for us right now. And like I said before, we’re not going to quit. It’s a long season,” Armando Bacot said.

“It’s unfortunate, though how we go and lose by a possession last two games of this trip and then Indiana, they really just took advantage of us. Atmosphere was crazy. Trayce played good, they all played good and we just didn’t.”
