Hubert Davis pushes back on idea of there being selfishness on UNC

No. 9 North Carolina allowed a second-half comeback last night in their opener against Elon. Still, Hubert Davis said selfishness had nothing to do with it or anything else when it comes to the Tar Heels.
Following the 90-76 win for UNC, Seth Trimble said part of their second-half struggles had to do with some of their selfishness on offense. When he got a question about that postgame as well, Davis disagreed that that would describe their team in any way.
“No, this is not a selfish team. There’s not one bit of selfishness on this team,” said Davis. “I’ve never seen that since this team has come together. I didn’t see that tonight. That’s never come into my mind in regards to this team.”
Again, that was after Trimble had said otherwise in his own answer with the media.
“You know, we were a little selfish, I think – I think myself included. You know, I could have made some one-mores. Everybody, you know, could have made one-mores,” Trimble said. “We need to get that right.”

In their 90-point scoring effort, North Carolina posted a dozen fewer points in the second half. That included a scoring drought of nearly four and a half minutes. In that span, the Phoenix turned a 12-point deficit into a two-point lead with seven to play in Chapel Hill.
However, UNC did have 22 assists on the night from their 32 field goals. 15 of those assists came from Elliott Cadeau and RJ Davis in near double-double performances for each of them.
North Carolina surely has some things to set after that one in one of the more so-so outings from the first night of the season. That’s especially so with their next game being at No. 1 Kansas in a Top-10 matchup on Friday. However, of the issues that they might have based off of one game, egos aren’t one of them according to Davis.
