3-star WR Jordan Shipp commits to North Carolina: 'Chapel Hill felt like home'
As he narrowed his choices down, Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School three-star wide receiver Jordan Shipp started to get a clearer picture of what his future might look like. He was either staying in-state at NC State or North Carolina or heading up to Michigan with a couple of his current teammates.
Ultimately Shipp decided to forge his own path as he announced his pledge to the Tar Heels Sunday afternoon.
“At one time, Michigan was on top. I got the offer and after I went up there for a visit, Michigan was on top,” Shipp told On3. “It blew me away and they took the lead. I went back to Chapel Hill again though after that, and there was just a different feeling for me there.
…That’s really what it came down to. I can’t explain it, that feeling in Chapel Hill felt like home.”
Heading into June Shipp said that no school had really separated itself at the top of his list. Michigan hosted him for his first official of the month and that trip blew him away. He also had a pair of teammates in four-star quarterback Jadyn Davis and wide receiver Channing Goodwin constantly in his ear trying to recruit him.

However, Shipp said that everything the Tar Heels coaches did on his official visit there clicked just right and that’s when things began to change.
North Carolina also had the distinction of being Shipp’s childhood dream school. His dad Steve coached Hakeem Nicks and Nicks would go on to star at North Carolina. Following Nix’s career, Shipp instantly became a fan of the Tar Heels.
He also sees a lot of similarities between himself and Nix when he was in Chapel Hill. Shipp now trains with Nix and said that following in his footsteps is something he’s dreamt about for a long time.
“I let the staff know that Sunday on my official visit and they were really excited,” said Shipp, the No. 412 player in the 2024 class. “I feel really, really good about my decision. It wasn’t easy to get here, but I feel great knowing I am going to Chapel Hill.”
