LB Amare Campbell commits to North Carolina
Manassas (Va.) Unity Reed linebacker Amare Campbell has committed to North Carolina. The 5-foot-11, 172 pound prospect is now the 17th member of the Tar Heels’ 2023 recruiting class.
Campbell is not ranked in the 2023 On3 Consensus or the 2023 On300. He received multiple Power Five offers from programs including Duke, Maryland and West Virginia.
North Carolina’s 2023 class currently ranks No. 23 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 5 in the ACC. Campbell is the Tar Heels’ second commitment of the day following Chesapeake (Va.) Western Branch three-star wide receiver Paul Billups.

Campbell is North Carolina’s second linebacker commit alongside Mableton (Ga.) Whitefield Academy three-star Caleb LaVallee. Prior to his commitment, Campbell took an unofficial visit to Chapel Hill on June 24. His only other official visit was to West Virginia two days earlier.
The Tar Heels now have five players from Virginia. They are Billups, Campbell, Richmond (Va.) four-star defensive lineman Joel Starlings, Stafford (Va.) Colonial Forge three-star offensive tackle Nolan McConnell and Ashburn (Va.) Loudoun Valley three-star tight end Julien Randolph.

The top players in North Carolina’s class include Starlings, Durham (N.C.) Southern four-star EDGE Jaybron Harvey, Hickory (N.C.) four-star EDGE Rico Walker, Harrisburg (N.C.) Hickory Ridge four-star Christian Hamilton and Maiden (N.C.) four-star Chris Gulliver. All five prospects are top-300 recruits and four of them come from in-state.
Campbell is now the Tar Heels’ fourth commitment of August. The others are Billups, Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes three-star defensive lineman Joshua Horton and Cornelius (N.C.) William Amos Hough three-star quarterback Tad Hudson. Additionally, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives North Carolina a 91.9% chance to land a pledge from Concord (N.C.) Jay M. Robinson four-star defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs, the No. 2 player in the state.
Campbell has an On3 NIL Valuation of $6.1K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
